Our Olympic dream is still in our hands, says Edgar

Australia won 3-1 over China to keep their Olympic hopes are still alive

Tokyo, Japan, June 4, 2016 – Australia captain Thomas Edgar was pleased with his team’s victory in their important match-up with continental rivals China and said that their Olympic dream is still in their hands, while China captain Jiao Shuai commended Australia for their excellent blocking.”

Australia coach Roberto Santilli: “We are happy and satisfied about the game. There is volleyball and then there is volleyball with pressure. This is why you did not see a good game today. We made mistakes at the start because of the pressure. China played well by changing their line-up.”

Australia captain Thomas Edgar: “This was an important match for us for the rest of the tournament. Our matches with China are always tough. Our Olympic dream is still in our hands. China knows me well because I played there last season. They had a plan for me. It was a difficult match, but we are satisfied with the result.”

China coach Xie Guochen: “This was a very important match for China. We did not play too well. We were under strong pressure today. We were overwhelmed by their strong attack. They had a bigger desire to go to the Olympics than us. We have one game left tomorrow.”

China captain Jiao Shuai: “Their blocks were excellent. We could not attack, as we wanted to. Their attackers spiked hard and prevented us from executing a counter-attack. We wanted to win but we were not able to.”
