Kubiak up for Rio 2016 rumble

Tokyo, Japan, May 25, 2016 – Polish star Michal Kubiak has said his side will be ready to fight for a Rio 2016 berth at the Men’s World Olympic Qualification Tournament when they begin in Tokyo, Japan on Saturday.

The tournament is Poland’s last chance at earning a place at the Games, but the 2014 world champions come in as one of the favourites to claim a top three place and a ticket to Brazil.

The world no.2 narrowly missed out on qualification after a heart-breaking loss to Italy on the final day of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup last October and also failed to win the European Olympic Qualification tournament.

However, Kubiak insists the side will fight for an Olympic spot.

“We went to Japan earlier, we have a little peace, to practice and to hone what is failing,” he revealed. “The organizers provided us with the right conditions and we can also play another test match.

“First of all, in training we need to focus on our mistakes, which we make far too much.

“We have to concentrate on what will happen on the court in Tokyo.

“We trust the members of the coaching staff and we know that this technique, tactics and freshness will come. In Japan, we will be ready to win this tournament.”

Poland begin their campaign against Canada at 06:40 GMT on Satuday. You can watch the full match on the FIVB YouTube channel.
