Canada await "huge challenge" in Japan

Tokyo, Japan, May 24, 2016 – Canada have arrived in Japan for the Men’s World Olympic Qualification and coach Glenn Hoag is predicting that qualification for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games will take a herculean effort.

The side will face seven of the world’s best teams, with the top three qualifying for the Games in August, and Hoag will hope his side are at their best to secure a first Olympic berth since Barcelona 1992.

"All the teams at this World Qualification Tournament will be determined and focused on the goal of securing the remaining men’s volleyball Olympic berths," he said. "We are fully aware of the challenge that awaits us, and aim to make Canada proud of our performance at this important tournament."

Canada hosted the NORCECA Olympic Qualification Tournament in January in Edmonton, but came up short of a ticket to Rio after losing its final match to Cuba to finish second behind their Caribbean rivals.

Canada opens their campaign against 2014 world champions, Poland.
